The Shining is a psychological horror film directed by Stanley Kubrick, based on Stephen King's 1977 novel of the same name. Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) is a recovering alcoholic and aspiring writer who takes a job as the winter caretaker at the isolated Overlook Hotel in the Colorado Rockies. His wife Wendy (Shelley Duvall) and son Danny (Danny Lloyd) accompany him, with Danny having psychic abilities commonly referred to as “the shining,” which helps him to see the hotel’s horrific past. As Jack begins to succumb to the supernatural forces within the hotel, Wendy and Danny struggle to survive and escape the madness. The Shining is considered to be one of the greatest horror films of all time and is recognized for its eerie atmosphere, its intense use of music, and its intense performances by Nicholson and Duvall.

"Pan's Labyrinth" is a dark fantasy set in Spain in the year 1944, five years after the Spanish Civil War. It follows the story of Ofelia, a young girl who is moved to a rural area with her pregnant mother to be with her new stepfather, a sadistic military officer. Ofelia discovers a labyrinth and meets a mysterious faun creature who tells her that she is a legendary lost princess. He assigns her a series of dangerous tasks to prove her royalty, while in the real world her stepfather grows increasingly abusive. As the story progresses, Ofelia must choose between the world of fantasy and the harsh reality of the real world. Ultimately, she discovers the power of her own courage and imagination.

The Exorcist is a 1973 psychological horror film directed by William Friedkin, based on the 1971 novel of the same name by William Peter Blatty. It tells the story of a young girl named Regan, who is possessed by a demonic entity and the two priests who attempt to exorcise the demon from her. The film follows the priests as they attempt to save Regan from the demon’s influence, which includes intense physical and psychological effects on Regan, as well as supernatural occurrences in and around the house. As the situation becomes more and more dire, the priests must draw on faith and determination to save Regan from the demonic forces. The Exorcist was a highly controversial and popular film upon release, and has since become a horror classic that is widely considered one of the greatest horror films ever made.

Evil Dead II is a 1987 American horror comedy film directed by Sam Raimi. The film is a sequel to the 1981 cult classic The Evil Dead, and is the second installment in the Evil Dead franchise. The film follows Ash Williams, who is once again forced to battle the forces of the dead. After being transported back in time to 1300 AD, Ash finds himself in a cabin in the woods with his possessed girlfriend, a wickedly possessed Henrietta, and his long-dead possessed father. With the help of a few mystical artifacts, Ash must find a way to destroy the evil that has been unleashed upon his world and rid himself of it once and for all. Along the way, he must fight off Deadites and other evil forces while trying to survive the night. The film was a critical and commercial success, and is now considered one of the most influential cult films of all time. It has since spawned two sequels, Army of Darkness and a reboot, Evil Dead.
