Fantasia is an animated film released in 1940. It is the third film in the Disney Animated Canon and is widely considered to be one of the greatest animated films of all time. The film consists of eight animated segments set to pieces of classical music conducted by Leopold Stokowski and performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra. The eight segments are: "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor" by Bach; "The Nutcracker Suite" by Tchaikovsky; "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" by Dukas; "Rite of Spring" by Stravinsky; "The Pastoral Symphony" by Beethoven; "Dance of the Hours" by Ponchielli; "Night on Bald Mountain" by Mussorgsky; and "Ave Maria" by Schubert. The film has been praised for its use of Technicolor and its dream-like atmosphere. Fantasia has become an important part of animation history and is one of the most beloved films in the Disney catalog.
