The Boat is a 1981 drama film directed by Wolfgang Petersen and starring Jürgen Prochnow and Herbert Grönemeyer. It tells the story of two German brothers, Erwin and Robert, who build a boat in their backyard in order to escape East Germany. When they make a successful escape, they set sail on the Baltic Sea and face a number of adventures and close calls in their quest to reach the West. Along the way, they must deal with the politics of the Cold War, as well as their own personal struggles. The film paints a vivid picture of life behind the Iron Curtain and the determination of the brothers to find a better life.

The Hunt for Red October tells the story of the daring and brilliant Soviet submarine captain, Marko Ramius (Sean Connery), who attempts to defect with his vessel, the Red October, to the United States. An American CIA analyst, Jack Ryan (Alec Baldwin), is sent to investigate the situation and determine if Ramius is a defector. Ryan's investigation leads him to the conclusion that the Red October is being used by the Soviets to launch a nuclear attack against the United States. However, Ramius has different plans for the submarine and Ryan must find out what they are before the situation worsens. As the story progresses, Ryan and his team must battle the Soviets and their advanced technology to prevent a potential disaster. In the end, Ramius successfully defects to the United States, bringing the Red October and its invaluable technology with him.
