The Green Mile follows Edgecomb's struggles with his faith and morality as he deals with Coffey's execution, which is carried out in spite of Edgecomb's belief of Coffey's innocence. Themes of hope and redemption are explored throughout the film as it examines the impact of the death penalty on society.

He is able to gain the respect of the other inmates, rise through the ranks and ultimately become the leader of the Corsican gang. Throughout the film, Malik navigates the criminal underworld and deals with loyalty, revenge, and justice. In the end, he is released from prison with newfound self-awareness and strength. A Prophet is an intense and thoughtful crime drama that examines the human capacity for resilience and redemption.
