Jaws is a 1975 American thriller directed by Steven Spielberg and based on Peter Benchley's novel of the same name. It tells the story of a giant, man-eating great white shark that preys upon a small resort town in Amity Island, prompting the local police chief, a marine biologist, and a professional shark hunter to hunt it down. The film stars Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw, Richard Dreyfuss, Lorraine Gary, and Murray Hamilton. The film is set in the fictional town of Amity Island, where a series of shark attacks begin to terrorize the local community. Despite the warnings of the local police chief, Martin Brody (Roy Scheider), Mayor Larry Vaughn (Murray Hamilton) insists that the beaches remain open in order to protect the town's lucrative tourist industry. After the shark causes more havoc and loss of life, Brody and a team of experts set out to track down and destroy the beast before it can do any more damage. As the attacks worsen, Melanie and Mitch must find a way to survive while trying to uncover the source of the birds’ strange behavior. The movie ends with Melanie and Mitch’s relationship strengthened and the birds finally departing. Despite the lack of a clear explanation for the birds’ attacks, The Birds remains an intense and eerie film.
