The Corporation is a 2003 Canadian documentary film written by Joel Bakan, and directed by Mark Achbar and Jennifer Abbott. It examines the modern-day corporation, considering its legal status as a class of person and evaluating its behavior towards society and the world at large as a psychologist might evaluate an ordinary person. The film explores the organization's behavior by considering its own internal dynamics, including organizational structure and decision making processes. It also looks at the wider context in which corporations operate, including their relationship to global politics, economics, and the environment. Along the way, the film provides insight into the history of the modern business corporation and the modern theories of corporate power. In addition to interviews with a variety of professionals in the corporate world, the documentary interviews a range of people affected by corporate actions, including activists, scientists, victims, and employees. The film concludes by suggesting that corporate power should be tamed and brought under democratic control.
