American Beauty is a 1999 drama film that follows the life of Lester Burnham, a middle-aged, middle class man who is unhappy with his life and the world around him. This leads to a complex and twisted relationship between the two that escalates quickly, with both of them pushing the boundaries of propriety and morality. Eventually, they take their relationship to a violent and dangerous level, forcing Erika to confront her sadistic and masochistic nature and ultimately make a choice between her own desires and her duty as a teacher.
