As the princess struggles to stay true to her heart, she is forced to make a difficult decision between the path laid out for her and the one she desires. The film is a magical and touching story of love, loss, and identity.

The film culminates in Thomson's Broadway premiere, where he must confront his demons and decide whether he will cast aside the role of Birdman and accept the unexpected virtue of ignorance that comes from embracing a new identity.
