Stranger Than Fiction is a 2006 fantasy comedy-drama directed by Marc Forster and starring Will Ferrell, Emma Thompson, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Dustin Hoffman, Queen Latifah, and Tony Hale. The film tells the story of Harold Crick, an IRS auditor whose mundane life is suddenly disrupted when he begins to hear the voice of an author narrating his every move. As Harold struggles to make sense of the situation, he discovers that the author is writing a story in which he is the main character, and that she is planning to kill him off. With the help of a professor of literature, Harold attempts to change the ending of the story and prevent his own death. As his journey progresses, Harold begins to understand more about himself, his purpose in life, and the power of self-determination. In the end, Harold is able to take control of his own story and write his own ending.
