Forrest Gump is a 1994 American comedy-drama film directed by Robert Zemeckis and written by Eric Roth. It is based on the 1986 novel of the same name by Winston Groom. The film stars Tom Hanks, Robin Wright, Gary Sinise, Mykelti Williamson, and Sally Field. The story depicts several decades in the life of Forrest Gump (Hanks), a slow-witted but kind-hearted man from Alabama who witnesses and, despite his intellectual impairment, strangely affects several key historical events in the 20th century. Forrest Gump is a kid from Alabama who overcomes odds to achieve success. He meets a number of historic figures, and touches many lives, despite being somewhat naive and not the brightest bulb in the box. Through it all, Forrest remains true to himself and his strong moral compass. His love for his childhood sweetheart Jenny (Wright) never wavers. Forrest fights in Vietnam and wins the Medal of Honor. He makes a fortune in the shrimp business and becomes a running phenomenon. Ultimately, Forrest learns that what is most important in life isn't the shallow rewards of fame or fortune, but rather the unconditional love of family and friends.
