Misery is a 1990 psychological horror film directed by Rob Reiner and based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King. The film follows writer Paul Sheldon (James Caan) who, after being rescued from a car accident by a deranged nurse, Annie Wilkes (Kathy Bates), finds himself held captive in her remote cabin in the mountains. Annie has read all of Paul's novels and professes to be his greatest fan, but her admiration quickly turns to obsession as she seeks to control him. As Paul becomes increasingly desperate to escape, Annie's behavior spirals out of control until a violent showdown. The film was a critical and commercial success, earning three Academy Awards and grossing over $60 million worldwide.
