Night of the Living Dead is a 1968 horror film directed by George A. Romero. Battle Royale is a Japanese 2000 film directed by Kinji Fukasaku and based on the 1999 novel of the same name by Koushun Takami. The film follows a group of junior high school students forced to fight each other to the death on a remote island as part of a government program. The students, divided into groups of three, are given random weapons and provisions and instructed to battle until only one survives. As the game progresses, alliances and rivalries form as the students attempt to survive and outwit each other. The film is a searing indictment of Japan’s education system and its emphasis on conformity. It is also a powerful, emotionally charged exploration of the brutal effects of violence and the lengths to which people will go to survive.

The Birds is considered a classic of the horror genre, and is praised for its suspenseful atmosphere and Hitchcock's masterful direction.
