The Shining is a 1980 psychological horror film directed by Stanley Kubrick and based on the 1977 novel of the same name by Stephen King. The film follows Jack Torrance, an aspiring writer and recovering alcoholic, who accepts a position as the off-season caretaker of the isolated, haunted Overlook Hotel in the Colorado Rockies. Along with his wife Wendy and their young son Danny, Jack moves into the hotel, unaware of the horrific secrets it hides. As the winter progresses and the hotel's supernatural forces begin to exert their influence on Jack, his sanity starts to unravel and he descends into a violent and delusional state. His increasingly erratic behavior puts Wendy and Danny in danger, as Jack's descent into madness leads him to become a killer. With suspense and terror mounting to a crescendo, the family is ultimately forced to confront the true nature of the hotel's evil and the terrifying fate that awaits them.
