Freaks is a 1932 horror film directed by Tod Browning. The film tells the story of a trapeze artist, Cleopatra, who seduces a circus midget, Hans, only to discover that he is heir to a large fortune. When the other members of the sideshow "freaks" learn of her plan to marry him for his money, they vow to make her one of them. The film features a cast of actual circus performers, including real physical deformities and disabilities. It was considered too shocking for audiences at the time of its release, and it was heavily censored. Despite this, the film has since gained cult status, due to its unique and groundbreaking portrayal of the lives of circus "freaks".

Zombieland follows four strangers as they join forces to take on the zombie apocalypse. Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) is a shy, survival-savvy young man who has managed to survive the zombie outbreak by following a set of rules. He meets up with Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) who is a man on a mission to get the last remaining Twinkie. Along the way, they encounter sisters Wichita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin) who are on a mission of their own. Together, the foursome take on hordes of zombies while also trying to find a place they can truly call home.
