The Fly is a 1986 science fiction horror film directed by David Cronenberg. It stars Jeff Goldblum as Seth Brundle, a brilliant but eccentric scientist who accidentally merges himself with a fly while attempting to use his newly invented teleportation device. As a result, Brundle slowly and painfully begins to mutate into a hybrid of human and insect. Geena Davis co-stars as Veronica Quaife, a journalist who documents his transformation and struggles to find a cure, while John Getz plays her sleazy editor, Stathis Borans. The Fly is a remake of the 1958 film of the same name, with a more contemporary take on the events and themes of the original, and Cronenberg's signature body horror style. The film was a commercial and critical success, earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Makeup and spawning two sequels.
