Close Encounters of the Third Kind is a 1977 science fiction film directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Richard Dreyfuss as Roy Neary, an everyday man whose life is disrupted after he has a close encounter with a UFO. After the initial encounter, Roy is obsessed with gathering evidence of the event and determined to find out the truth behind the mysterious experience. Along the way, he meets other people who have had similar encounters, and together they all eventually embark on a journey to a secret site in Wyoming. There, they discover a massive gathering of alien ships, and make contact with the aliens themselves, who have come to Earth in search of a specific individual. Through the course of the movie, Roy and the others learn the meaning of the encounter, and the importance of recognizing the beauty and wonder of the universe.

Mysterious Skin is a 2004 independent drama film written and directed by Gregg Araki. The film follows two pre-adolescent boys who are physically and emotionally scarred by their experiences with sexual abuse. One of the boys, Brian Lackey, is a lonely and withdrawn eight-year-old who believes he was abducted by aliens, while the other, Neil McCormick, is a troubled teenager whose promiscuity masks his inner pain. As they grow older and begin to uncover the truth about their shared past, they must learn how to cope with their trauma and build a new future for themselves.
