Umberto D. is a 1952 Italian neorealist film directed by Vittorio De Sica. The film follows the story of a retired government employee, Umberto Domenico Ferrari, who is struggling to survive on his meager government pension. Despite his best efforts, he is unable to make ends meet and is eventually forced to part with his beloved pet dog. At the same time, he faces eviction from his boarding house due to his inability to pay the rent. With no one to turn to, Umberto desperately searches for a way to make enough money to survive, all while continuing to fight for his dignity. In the end, the film ends on a bittersweet note, with Umberto giving up his beloved dog in order to save his dignity.
