Donnie Darko is a psychological thriller directed by Richard Kelly and starring Jake Gyllenhaal. Set in 1988, the film follows Donnie, a troubled high school student who is plagued by visions of a large rabbit named Frank. Donnie is told by Frank the world will end in 28 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes and 12 seconds, and soon learns that Frank may not be a figment of his imagination. As he tries to figure out Frank's purpose and the meaning of his visions, Donnie's behavior grows increasingly bizarre, which leads to trouble with his family and school as he begins to unravel the mysteries surrounding him. As he gets closer to the truth, he discovers a sinister, alternate universe and his role in it.
