Casino Royale is a 2006 spy film, and the twenty-first in the Eon Productions James Bond film series. It is a loose adaptation of Ian Fleming's novel of the same name. Directed by Martin Campbell, the film stars Daniel Craig as James Bond, appearing in his first cinematic outing as the fictitious MI6 agent. The film follows Bond on an assignment to bankrupt terrorist financier Le Chiffre in a high-stakes poker game at the Casino Royale in Montenegro; Bond falls in love with Vesper Lynd, a treasury employee assigned to provide the money he needs for the game. The film also stars Eva Green, Mads Mikkelsen, Jeffrey Wright, and Judi Dench. Casino Royale follows Bond as he attempts to stop the terrorist organization Quantum from controlling the world's terrorist markets. Bond's loyalty to M is tested when her past comes back to haunt her. When Bond wins the tournament, Le Chiffre's plan is foiled, but his henchmen kidnap Vesper and steal the money. Bond must fight his way through a series of life-threatening situations to save her and recover the money.
