Jaws is a 1975 American thriller directed by Steven Spielberg based on the 1974 novel by Peter Benchley of the same name. The film follows police chief Martin Brody (Roy Scheider) as he attempts to protect the beachgoers of Amity Island, a fictional summer resort town, from a great white shark that has been terrorizing the area. Along the way, Brody teams up with marine biologist Matt Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) and professional shark hunter Quint (Robert Shaw) to hunt the beast. The film is notable for being one of the first modern blockbusters, revolutionizing the movie industry with its wide release and eventually becoming the highest-grossing film of all time until the release of Star Wars in 1977.

The Birds is a horror-thriller film from 1963, directed by Alfred Hitchcock. The movie tells the story of a small California coastal town that is attacked by seemingly normal birds, leaving the townsfolk to struggle for their lives against the relentless onslaught of the birds. The main characters in the film are Melanie Daniels, a wealthy socialite from San Francisco who visits the town, and Mitch Brenner, a lawyer who befriends her. Together, the two of them discover the source of the birds’ rage—an unknown force that is spurring them to attack the townspeople. As the birds’ attacks become increasingly intense, the townspeople must find a way to fight back, or risk being overwhelmed by the birds’ ferocity. The Birds is a classic example of Hitchcock’s suspenseful and thought-provoking style of filmmaking.
