Duel is a 1971 American thriller film directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Dennis Weaver as a terrified motorist pursued by an enigmatic tanker truck driver on a remote and desolate stretch of desert highway. The movie opens on an ordinary man driving a Plymouth Valiant on a business trip. Suddenly, a large tanker truck looms from behind and begins to aggressively tailgate the man's car. The truck driver is never seen, but his cat-and-mouse behavior creates an increasing sense of unease and terror for the man. The trucker eventually forces the man off the highway, and the chase continues, with the trucker's relentless pursuit driving the man to desperation. In the end, the man is able to force the truck off the road and survive his ordeal. The last few seconds of the film have the truck driver walking away from the crash, while the man contemplates the surreal experience he has just gone through.
