Aliens is a 1986 sci-fi action horror film directed by James Cameron and starring Sigourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley. It is the sequel to 1979's Alien and the second installment in the Alien franchise. The film follows Ripley, the sole survivor of the previous film, as she returns to the planet LV-426 with a team of Colonial Marines to confront the Xenomorphs that inhabit the planet. They soon discover that the Xenomorphs have been breeding for over fifty years, leading to a battle for survival. The marines and Ripley must team up to battle the Xenomorphs and find a way off the planet before they are all killed. Along the way, they discover the true origin of the creatures, and even make unexpected allies. In the end, Ripley defeats the Alien Queen and they return to Earth safely. Aliens is widely considered one of the greatest action films of all time, and has become a classic in the sci-fi genre. The film was extremely successful and spawned two more sequels, as well as several spin-off media projects.
