Room is a 2015 drama film directed by Lenny Abrahamson, based on the novel of the same name by Emma Donoghue. The film stars Brie Larson as Joy Newsome, a young mother who is held captive with her five-year-old son Jack (Jacob Tremblay) in a single room. Joy had been abducted seven years prior and confined to the room by her captor, "Old Nick" (Sean Bridgers). In the room, Joy and Jack have created a make-shift home, but as Jack's curiosity about the outside world grows, Joy realizes that she must find a way to escape in order to give him a better life. With ingenuity, courage, and the help of a mysterious ally, Joy and Jack make a daring escape plan, ultimately leading to a dramatic confrontation with Old Nick. The film is a powerful and emotional exploration of the mother-son relationship, and of Joy's courage in the face of extreme adversity.
