Guardians of the Galaxy is a 2014 Marvel Studios superhero film written and directed by James Gunn. Set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the film follows a rag-tag group of criminals who have been brought together to save the galaxy from Ronan, a powerful villain. In the film, the Guardians, comprised of Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), and Groot (Vin Diesel), must retrieve the powerful Orb from the hands of Ronan and his lieutenants. Along the way, the Guardians learn the importance of friendship, loyalty and sacrifice as they fight to protect the galaxy. With the help of the Nova Corps, a peacekeeping force led by Nova Prime (Glenn Close), the Guardians must band together to fight off Ronan and his minions while also trying to keep the Orb safe. With their determination and courage, the Guardians are able to save the galaxy and become unlikely heroes.

Along the way, they gain allies, enemies, and an iconic theme song. The film was an incredible success, becoming the highest-grossing comedy of all time and an enduring classic.
