The Lion King is an animated musical drama film released in 1994 and directed by Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff. The film follows the life of Simba, the young lion cub of King Mufasa and Queen Sarabi. After his uncle Scar kills Mufasa, Simba is tricked into believing he is responsible and flees the kingdom. As an adult, Simba, with the help of his friends Timon and Pumbaa, returns to reclaim the throne from Scar. Along the way, he learns valuable lessons about courage, responsibility, and redemption. The film features an impressive voice cast, including Matthew Broderick, James Earl Jones, Nathan Lane, and Whoopi Goldberg, and its soundtrack was composed by Elton John and Hans Zimmer. The Lion King was a massive critical and commercial success, grossing more than $968 million and becoming the highest-grossing animated film of all time until 2019.
