Hacksaw Ridge is a 2016 historical war drama directed by Mel Gibson and starring Andrew Garfield. Set during World War II, the film tells the story of Desmond Doss, an American pacificist who, as a conscientious objector, refuses to carry or use a weapon or kill. Despite his beliefs, he eventually enlisted as a medic and singlehandedly saved the lives of 75 wounded men during the Battle of Okinawa. With courage and determination, Doss goes beyond his convictions and risks his own life to save the lives of others while only armed with his faith and an unwavering commitment to serve. Through his heroics, Doss becomes the first conscientious objector in American history to be awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.
