Remember the Titans is a 2000 American sports drama film directed by Boaz Yakin. Set in 1971, it tells the true story of African-American head coach Herman Boone (Denzel Washington) and his attempt to integrate the T.C. Williams High School football team in Alexandria, Virginia. The team must overcome not only their own internal conflicts, but also the deeply entrenched racism of both their hometown and the United States at large. The film stars Denzel Washington, Will Patton, Wood Harris, and Ryan Hurst. It is based on the story of the 1971 T.C. Williams High School football team and their journey to win the Virginia State Championship despite the racial tensions that surrounded the integration of the team. The film also looks at the relationships between the players and the coaches, as well as the school board, which had to grapple with the issues of race and integration. The film was a commercial success, grossing over $136 million domestically and receiving generally positive reviews from critics.
