"Umberto D" is the story of Umberto Domenico Ferrari, an elderly pensioner who lives in a rented room in Rome. Umberto is struggling to make ends meet and, despite his best efforts, is unable to pay his rent. Desperate, he tries to pawn his few possessions, but is turned away by a pawnbroker. With no other options, he turns to his loyal, but often disobedient, dog Flike for companionship. As Umberto's financial situation becomes increasingly dire, he decides to take drastic measures to try and save himself from eviction. In the end, Umberto is forced to confront his own loneliness and poverty in order to keep his home.

Togo is a 2019 American adventure drama film directed by Ericson Core. The movie is based on the true story of a sled dog named Togo and his musher Leonhard Seppala, who were involved in a 1925 serum run to transport antitoxin serum to Nome, Alaska during a diphtheria outbreak. The film follows the journey of Togo and Seppala as they brave harsh weather, frigid temperatures, and treacherous terrain to deliver the serum, saving the town and its inhabitants. Along their journey, they face many obstacles, including dangerous ice conditions, unpredictable weather, and the treacherous terrain of the Alaskan wilderness. Ultimately, Togo and Seppala make it to Nome in time to deliver the lifesaving medicine. The film stars Willem Dafoe as Seppala and Julianne Nicholson as his wife, Constance.

As Good as It Gets is a 1997 romantic comedy-drama directed by James L. Brooks. In addition, the film follows the story of Simon Bishop (Greg Kinnear), a gay artist and Melvin's friend and neighbor, whose paintings Melvin buys in order to help him out financially. The film follows Melvin and Carol's budding romance, as Melvin begins to come out of his shell and learn to accept others' differences; and Simon's struggles with his sexuality, as he is forced to confront his fear of coming out. Despite their differences and obstacles, the three characters eventually find happiness and acceptance in each other. The film was a critical and commercial success, earning Academy Award nominations for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Supporting Actor.

The father, Nathan Lee Morgan, is arrested and sent to prison for stealing food for his family, leaving his wife Rebecca (Tyson) and sons David (Hooks) and Reuben (Winfield) to attempt to make ends meet without him. The family is further hurt when their beloved dog, Sounder, is shot. After Nathan is released from prison, he is determined to make a better life for his family and with the help of his sons, he is able to purchase some land and build a small house. Despite the hardships they faced and the racism they faced, the family is able to reunite and find joy in the simple things.
