In the Name of the Father is a 1993 biographical drama directed by Jim Sheridan. The film tells the story of Gerry Conlon, a young Irishman who is wrongfully convicted of an IRA bombing in 1974, along with three other men. Despite being innocent, all four men are sentenced to life in prison. Through the help of his lawyer, Gerry is eventually able to prove his innocence with the help of an unlikely ally. The film focuses on Gerry's long fight for justice, as well as his relationship with his father, Giuseppe, who was also wrongly convicted and imprisoned. Through the course of the film, Gerry is able to prove his innocence and gain his freedom, but at a cost. The film is a powerful and emotional exploration of injustice and the lengths one must go to in order to seek justice.
