The Secret of NIMH is an animated adventure fantasy film directed by Don Bluth and released in 1982. It tells the story of Mrs. Brisby (voiced by Elizabeth Hartman), a timid field mouse living in a cinder block in a farm in rural America. When the farmer plows the field, Mrs. Brisby must find a way to protect her home and her ill son Timmy from the tractor. She seeks help from a mysterious group of rats she had encountered earlier, who live in a mysterious rat-run laboratory called NIMH. The rats have been enhanced by the laboratory's experiments and possess amazing intelligence and powers. With their help, Mrs. Brisby discovers the secret of NIMH and learns that the rats must escape before the government shuts it down. She helps them to escape and uses her newfound knowledge to protect her home. In the end, Mrs. Brisby and her family emerge triumphant, having managed to outwit the authorities and protect their home.
