The film recounts the story of five young African American and Latino teenagers from Harlem who were wrongly convicted of raping a white jogger in Central Park in 1989. The film follows the case from its beginnings, when the teens were taken into custody, through their trials and convictions, to the ultimate exoneration of the five and the civil lawsuit that followed. The film examines the broader issues of race, class, and the criminal justice system, and questions how the media, police, and prosecutors were so quick to convict them.
