It is an experiment in animation and music, featuring eight different segments conducted by Leopold Stokowski and performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra. Each segment is an interpretation of a classical piece of music, including "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" (Dukas), "The Rite of Spring" (Stravinsky), "The Pastoral Symphony" (Beethoven), "Dance of the Hours" (Ponchielli), and more. The film follows Christian, a young Englishman, as he falls in love with Satine, an entertainer at the Moulin Rouge, and their epic journey to be together. Along the way, they must battle the rival Duke, who desires Satine for himself, as well as the various obstacles of their own personal struggles. The film features an ensemble cast of Nicole Kidman, Ewan McGregor, John Leguizamo, Jim Broadbent, and Richard Roxburgh and features a genre-bending blend of musical, drama, and comedy. The soundtrack features classic songs from the early 20th century, as well as original songs composed for the film. The film was a critical and commercial success, and won two Academy Awards for Best Art Direction and Best Costume Design.

Pinocchio is a 1940 American animated musical fantasy film produced by Walt Disney Productions and based on the Italian children's novel The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi. The plot of the film involves an old wood-carver named Geppetto who carves a wooden marionette named Pinocchio. The puppet is brought to life by a blue fairy, who informs him that he can become a real boy if he proves himself to be "brave, truthful, and unselfish". Pinocchio's journey to becoming a real boy is filled with adventures and misadventures. Along the way, he befriends a cricket, Jiminy, who serves as his conscience. Pinocchio is also tricked several times by a fox and a cat into joining Stromboli's puppet show, nearly drowned by Monstro the whale, and is almost eaten by the wicked whale after being lured into the sea by the deceitful Honest John and Gideon.
