Fried Green Tomatoes is a 1991 comedy-drama film directed by Jon Avnet, based on the novel Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Café by Fannie Flagg. They then share tales of Idgie Threadgoode and Ruth Jamison, two young women living in a small town in Alabama in the 1920s. Along the way, the stories of both Idgie and Ruth's lives intertwine, eventually intersecting with the elderly women's lives.
