What We Do in the Shadows is a 2014 mockumentary horror comedy film written, directed, and produced by Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi. The film follows the lives of four vampires who share a flat in Wellington, New Zealand. The vampires—Viago (Waititi), Deacon (Jonathan Brugh), Vladislav (Clement) and Petyr (Ben Fransham)—struggle with everyday problems of modern life such as paying rent, keeping up with the latest trends and trying to get invited into nightclubs. The film also follows the vampires' interactions with their human acquaintances, including Stu (Stuart Rutherford) and Jackie (Jackie van Beek), who become more and more aware of the vampires’ true nature as the film progresses. With comedic moments, dry wit and a touch of the macabre, What We Do in the Shadows is a unique and offbeat look at life as a vampire.
