The Silence of the Lambs is a 1991 psychological horror film directed by Jonathan Demme and based on Thomas Harris' 1988 novel of the same name. It stars Jodie Foster as Clarice Starling, a young FBI trainee who is brought in to help investigate a serial killer known as "Buffalo Bill" (Ted Levine). She is aided in her investigation by the imprisoned former psychiatrist and cannibalistic serial killer, Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins). With Lecter's help, Starling is able to track down and eventually capture the killer, but not before she is put in dangerous situations. The film received five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress for Foster, Best Actor for Hopkins, and Best Adapted Screenplay.
