Eyes Without a Face is a 1960 French psychological horror film directed by Georges Franju and written by Pierre Boileau, Thomas Narcejac and Franju. The film stars Pierre Brasseur as Professor Genessier, Alida Valli as Louise, Edith Scob as Christiane, and Juliette Mayniel as Louise's fiancé. The film follows the story of Professor Genessier, an eminent plastic surgeon in Paris. He was responsible for a car accident that left his daughter Louise disfigured. Out of guilt, he tries to restore her beauty by any means possible – including kidnapping young women and taking their faces for transplants. When his attempt fails and his daughter remains hideously disfigured, the Professor is forced to come to terms with his own sorrow and guilt. The film is an exploration of the limits of science and of the consequences of transgressing those limits.
