Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl is a 2003 swashbuckling adventure film directed by Gore Verbinski, based on the Disney theme park ride of the same name. It follows the story of the cursed pirate Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) as he searches for his beloved ship, the Black Pearl, which has been taken over by the evil undead pirate Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush). Along the way, Jack teams up with the spirited Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and the feisty Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), while also fighting off Barbossa's undead crew and the British Navy, who are both after the Black Pearl. With the help of Jack's pirate crew, they must find a way to break the curse and restore the Black Pearl to its rightful owner.

The film starts off with the pirates boarding the ship and Phillips doing all he can to protect his crew. After several attempts to outsmart and outrun the pirates, Phillips and his crew are held hostage. The US Navy arrives and attempts to intervene, but the Somali pirates threaten to kill Phillips if they don't back off. Eventually, the Navy launches a successful rescue mission and Captain Phillips is saved. The film ends with Phillips returning home to his family.
