The Gospel of John is a 2003 British-Canadian television film dramatization of the Gospel of John. Produced by Visual Bible International, it is a three-hour presentation of the Gospel of John inWord-for-Word Bible filmmaking. Directed by Philip Saville, the film stars Henry Ian Cusick as Jesus and a cast of well-known British actors, including Peter Firth, Christopher Plummer, Stewart Scudamore and Richard Lintern. The film begins with the story of John the Baptist calling for repentance and baptizing people who are about to begin a new life. Jesus then starts his ministry, preaching and performing miracles. He also meets and teaches his disciples, such as Peter, Thomas, and Mary Magdalene. Throughout the film, Jesus is confronted by the Pharisees who continually challenge his teachings and intentions. Jesus is ultimately betrayed, arrested and crucified. The story ends with the resurrection and his last appearance to his disciples. Throughout the film, the dialogue is taken directly from the Bible and the filmmakers strove to recreate the landscapes and settings described in the Bible. The casting and production values help to bring the story to life.
