One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is a 1975 American drama film directed by Milos Forman. The film stars Jack Nicholson as Randall McMurphy, a criminal who fakes insanity to avoid prison and instead is sent to a mental institution. He encourages the other inmates to stand up to the oppressive Nurse Ratched, who runs the hospital with an iron fist. With the help of his newfound friends, McMurphy helps the inmates to gain their freedom and stand up for themselves. The film is an adaptation of the Ken Kesey novel of the same name, and won five Academy Awards in 1976, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Nicholson.
