Young Mr. Lincoln is a 1939 biographical drama film directed by John Ford and starring Henry Fonda as President Abraham Lincoln. The movie follows the story of Lincoln's early life and his emergence as a lawyer in Illinois, leading up to his election as president. The film follows the course of Lincoln's life, from his childhood in Kentucky, to his young adulthood in New Salem, Illinois, and ultimately to his election to the presidency of the United States. The movie also features a courtroom scene in which Lincoln, who has just been admitted to the bar, acts as defense counsel in a murder trial. The film paints a picture of a young Lincoln who is idealistic, thoughtful and compassionate, with a firm belief in justice and the institution of law. The movie is considered to be one of the best Lincoln biopics ever made and is a landmark in the career of director John Ford.
