Planet of the Apes is a 1968 science fiction film directed by Franklin J. Schaffner and based on the 1963 French novel La Planète des singes by Pierre Boulle. The film follows astronaut George Taylor (Charlton Heston) as he journeys to a distant planet inhabited by intelligent apes. On the planet, apes are the dominant species, while humans are primitive and treated as second-class citizens. Taylor soon realizes that humans were once the dominant species on the planet, but were overthrown by the apes. He leads a revolution of humans against the apes, and ultimately discovers that the planet he has arrived on is actually Earth, in the distant future. The film was a huge success and spawned four sequels, as well as a remake in 2001. The movie is widely regarded as one of the greatest science fiction films of all time and its iconic ending scene has been parodied and referenced countless times in popular culture.

The film culminates with a thrilling climax atop the Empire State Building as Kong battles a squadron of biplanes. King Kong is both a thrilling adventure and a cautionary tale about the dangers of tampering with nature.

After a successful trial, the chimp, Caesar, begins to display signs of increased intelligence and a heightened sense of awareness. When his lab is shut down and Caesar is taken away from him, Will joins forces with an animal rights activist (Freida Pinto) to free Caesar and his fellow apes. After escaping to the woods, Caesar rallies an army of apes and leads them in a revolt against humanity, resulting in a devastating global conflict between apes and humans. The film follows Caesar's journey from a lab experiment to a revolutionary leader and culminates in the planet of the apes being born.
