Fantasia (1940) is an animated film produced by Walt Disney Productions and released by RKO Radio Pictures. Directed by multiple directors, including James Algar, Samuel Armstrong, Ford Beebe Jr., Norman Ferguson, David Hand, Jim Handley, T. Hee, Wilfred Jackson, Hamilton Luske, Bill Roberts, Paul Satterfield and Ben Sharpsteen, the film features eight animated segments set to classical music pieces, conducted by Leopold Stokowski, and performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra. The film follows a variety of stories and characters, ranging from an abstract battle between spirit and chaos to the adventures of dancing fairies and Mickey Mouse as the Sorcerer's Apprentice. The film was a box office success, earning over $180 million worldwide and earning two Academy Award nominations for Best Art Direction and Best Costume Design.
