Pink Floyd: The Wall is an animated live-action musical drama film directed by Alan Parker and based on the 1979 Pink Floyd album of the same name. The film follows the story of Pink, a troubled rock star struggling with depression, writer’s block, and the pressures of fame. Through a series of symbolic and surreal sequences, the movie depicts Pink’s mental and emotional journey as he attempts to come to terms with his inner demons and make sense of his confused place in society. The film features songs from the album, including "Another Brick in the Wall," "Comfortably Numb," and "Hey You," as well as additional lyrics written by Pink Floyd bassist Roger Waters. It was a critical and commercial success and was nominated for several awards, including a BAFTA for Best British Film.

Dancer in the Dark is a musical drama written and directed by Lars von Trier. It tells the story of Selma Ježková (Björk), a Czech immigrant factory worker living in Washington State in the 1960s. Struggling to make ends meet and save her son from a hereditary eye condition, Selma finds solace in her love of musicals and dreams of a better life. When her savings are stolen, she is forced to face the consequences of her actions as she fights for her freedom and the safety of her son. The film is a dark and visually stunning exploration of poverty and despair, as well as a powerful testament to the resilience of the human spirit. It won the Palme d'Or at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song.

Hedwig and the Angry Inch is a 2001 musical comedy-drama film written and directed by John Cameron Mitchell. The film follows Hedwig, a transgender punk-rock girl from East Berlin, and her search for her other half. After a botched sex-change operation, Hedwig is left with an "angry inch" of flesh between her legs, hence the title. As she journeys across the United States with her band, The Angry Inch, she tells her life story through a series of flashbacks. Along the way she meets Tommy, a young man with whom she develops a romantic relationship, and she is confronted by a former lover, an evil rock superstar. Hedwig eventually finds acceptance and love, but her journey is full of heartache, laughter, and rock 'n' roll.

The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert is a 1994 Australian comedy-drama film directed by Stephan Elliott. The movie follows two drag queens, Mitzi (Hugo Weaving) and Felicia (Guy Pearce), and a transgender woman, Bernadette (Terence Stamp), as they travel across the Australian Outback in a tour bus that they have named “Priscilla”. Along the way, they are confronted with both social and personal struggles. In the end, the trio finds a sense of acceptance and understanding through their journey. The film is an exploration of gender roles and identity, as well as a celebration of the human spirit. It was a critical and commercial success and won numerous awards, including an Academy Award for Best Costume Design.
