The Social Network is a 2010 American biographical drama film directed by David Fincher and written by Aaron Sorkin. The film stars Jesse Eisenberg as Mark Zuckerberg, a Harvard University student who creates the social networking website Facebook in 2003 with his college roommates Eduardo Saverin (Andrew Garfield), Dustin Moskovitz (Joseph Mazzello) and Chris Hughes (Patrick Mapel). The story is based on the 2009 book The Accidental Billionaires by Ben Mezrich, which chronicles the founding of the website and the resulting lawsuits. The film follows Zuckerberg as he creates the website, deals with the resulting lawsuits from a number of parties, and struggles to find a balance in his relationships with his best friend and business partner Eduardo, his girlfriend (and eventual wife) Priscilla Chan, and the co-founder of Napster and eventual Facebook president Sean Parker (Justin Timberlake). Throughout the film, Zuckerberg is shown to be driven by his own insecurities and feelings of inadequacy, and is consequently highly critical of those around him who do not live up to his expectations. He is eventually forced to confront his own moral dilemmas as he struggles to establish himself as a successful entrepreneur, while trying to maintain his friendship
