The film is a sequel to the 1979 film Alien, and follows Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) as she returns to the moon where her crew encountered the hostile Alien creature, this time accompanied by a unit of space marines. When the marines investigate, they discover that the aliens have overrun the colony and are now reproducing at an alarming rate. With limited time and resources, the marines and Ripley must work together to eliminate the aliens and protect the colony. The film features intense action sequences, intense suspense, and a strong female protagonist, as Ripley leads the team against the aliens. Ripley also discovers a connection to the aliens, which she must confront and ultimately accept. Aliens is widely regarded as one of the best science-fiction films of all time, and was nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

With the help of the aliens, Wikus discovers a powerful weapon and inadvertently ingests a fluid that begins to transform him into one of them. As government forces close in, Wikus and the aliens must team up in order to survive, while Wikus also races to find a cure to reverse his transformation.
