Rated PG-13

Moneyball is a 2011 biopic directed by Bennett Miller, starring Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill. It tells the true story of Oakland Athletics general manager Billy Beane and his attempts to turn his team's fortunes around by using statistical analysis to identify players to recruit. After losing some of his team's most important players, Beane sets out to assemble a competitive team with a smaller payroll. He teams up with Peter Brand, a young economist with a unique approach to analyzing players, and together they devise a plan to use sabermetrics - the analysis of baseball statistics - to find undervalued players. Beane's strategy works and the team surprisingly wins 20 consecutive games, setting a new American League record. Despite the success of Beane's unorthodox approach, he finds himself constantly challenged by the team's old-school scouts and his own personal demons. Moneyball ultimately shows how one man's vision and persistence can make a difference, even in the face of overwhelming odds.
