The Wages of Fear is a 1953 French film directed by Henri-Georges Clouzot. It tells the story of four desperate men who are hired to transport explosives to a distant oil well. Along the way, they encounter a range of characters, from marauders to a tribe of fire-worshipping women, and ultimately form an unlikely alliance in their struggle against the tyranny of Immortan Joe. The film received widespread critical acclaim, and was nominated for ten Academy Awards, winning six.

The tension of the film builds to a climactic showdown as the four men come face to face with their ultimate fate.

Duel is considered to be one of Spielberg's earliest classics, and is widely considered to be one of the greatest thrillers of all time.
