In order to return home, Chihiro must work in a bathhouse for the gods and gain the trust of the spirits inhabiting the land. Along the way, she encounters a variety of strange characters, and must outwit a number of magical obstacles. Through her journey, Chihiro learns important lessons about loyalty, courage, and the power of friendship.

San, along with Lady Eboshi, the leader of the humans, become embroiled in a battle between the gods of the forest and the humans who consume the forest's resources. The fate of the forest and the future of both humans and gods hang in the balance. Throughout his journey, Ashitaka discovers the truth about the conflict between humans and nature.

The film is inspired by the true story of a tour of the Deep South by African-American classical and jazz pianist Don Shirley and Italian-American bouncer Frank "Tony Lip" Vallelonga who served as Shirley's driver and bodyguard. The film follows the two men as they navigate the deep-rooted racial and economic prejudices of the American South and find common ground. The film was met with praise from critics and won three Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor for Ali, and Best Original Screenplay for Farrelly, Nick Vallelonga, Brian Currie, and Peter Farrelly.

The film's memorable characters include Randall "Pink" Floyd, a high school football star who's trying to decide whether to sign his team's no-drugs pledge; Wooderson, the slightly older, drug-dealing ladies man; Slater, the school's uptight disciplinarian; and Mitch Kramer, a freshman who has his first experiences with beer, marijuana, and girls. As the night progresses, the teens find themselves in a variety of misadventures, including drag racing, partying, and just hanging out. Through it all, the teens come to terms with their lives and learn to accept themselves and their friends.
