Dallas Buyers Club is a 2013 American biographical drama film directed by Jean-Marc Vallée and written by Craig Borten and Melisa Wallack. The film stars Matthew McConaughey as real-life cowboy and rodeo rider Ron Woodroof, a Texan who was diagnosed with AIDS in 1985 and given only 30 days to live. In response, Woodroof smuggles unapproved pharmaceutical drugs into Texas for treating his symptoms and those of other HIV/AIDS patients. The film also stars Jennifer Garner, Jared Leto, and Steve Zahn. The film follows Woodroof's struggles to live with HIV/AIDS and his efforts to create the "Dallas Buyers Club" to help other people with HIV/AIDS get access to the drugs they need. In his struggle, he battles the FDA and faces discrimination from doctors and pharmaceutical companies. With the help of his doctor, Eve Saks (Garner), and a transgender AIDS patient, Rayon (Leto), Woodroof eventually establishes a club that provides the drug for free to members, who pay a membership fee.
