The Nightmare Before Christmas is a 1993 American stop-motion animated musical dark fantasy film directed by Henry Selick and produced and conceived by Tim Burton. The film was met with critical and financial success, grossing over $76 million during its initial theatrical release. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects and the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation. It was reissued in Disney Digital 3-D in 2006. It also received an Academy Award nomination for Best Visual Effects, making it the first stop-motion film to receive an Academy Award nomination. It has since been recognized as a cult classic.
